Who is going to pay your medical expenses and when? Suppose you have no medical payments coverage or you do not have enough to pay for all of your bills?
- When does my health insurance have to pay?
If you have no medical payments coverage or do not have enough to cover all of your medical bills your health insurance will have to pay regardless of whether or not your injuries occurred in an auto accident or not. - WARNING:
Many health insurers are now sending letters to their insureds requesting information as to whether the injuries were caused by a third party in an accident and advising that they will not pay if that is the case. By law, if you do NOT have medical payments coverage, your insurance carrier must pay your medical bills. Some insurers are considered an ERISA plan and will not pay your bills unless you sign a statement guaranteeing to reimbursement them. Be careful! - Do I have to reimburse my health insurer if I obtain compensation from the at-fault party?
The short answer is maybe. For a more detailed discussion click on the link to the left which discusses reimbursement rights.
